Welcome to the land of ...

The Credit-Worthy... Yes. I was sent a package of paraphernalia by none other than Which Bankż a couple of weeks ago, going on about the benefits of signing up and with all this funky groovy kewl advertising material including the personalised ringbound notepad memo, and pics of a couple of hip and happening people with facial piercings, one of whom looked a bit like Ella Hooper of Killing Heidi fame ... so, being in the land of the currently employed, and wanting a way to build up my lack of a credit rating ... I applied ... Two weeks later, I get my shiny piece of plastic and another clump of small print to peruse over ...

Exactly what am I going to do with this piece of plastic? Um... pretty much not use it unless I have the money to pay it back immediately ...

Apart from being all credit-worthy, I'm feeling a bit like a wanted Droidy, with additional work being offered on a part-time basis by my current work, a job interview for possible work-experience-worthy employment last Wednesday evening, and then some more on-going part-time work being offered by another bunch of people, which also has the possibility of work-experience-worthiness further down the track ... Why is it that once you do have a job, people start banging on your door asking if you'd like another one?! I never thought I'd be so employable !

Anyways... enough rambling from me for one afternoon ... if it gets too quiet at reception, I'll do a quick post from the switch bitch desk of power... *evil grin* ...

Indeedy ...

I am, of course, none other than blank verse.
I don't know where I'm going, yes, quite right;
And when I get there (if I ever do)
I might not recognise it. So? Your point?
Why should I have a destination set?
I'm relatively happy as I am,
And wouldn't want to be forever aimed
Towards some future path or special goal.
It's not to do with laziness, as such.
It's just that one the whole I'd rather not
Be bothered - so I drift contentedly;
An underrated way of life, I find.
What Poetry Form Are You?

Ok, back to the kitchen ... there's a small pile of dishes that need attention ...

Birthday Happies and Bureaucratic Nonsense

Firstly... Birthday Happies to Julie, hope your birthday not in Australia is really really good (:

Secondly... argh. How do you get across to people that something you're trying to organise has been spoken about to someone else, and that you've been specifically requested for the position? This has absolutely nothing to do with my current job - they're the nicest bunch of people, and I have the opportunity for ongoing casual work too ... It has to do with people new to their job, and communication issues within departments... Argh. And that was only after 2 phone calls ... Hopefully it'll all be sorted out soon though ... patience is not always my greatest strength ...

Although ... I managed to be patient enough at tennis on Monday night ... there was a good ball to hit, mostly, but not enough to be able to really belt at ... so I returned patiently and tried to wait for the right one to thwack muchly... hey, it paid off... we won (: Next week, I've got a bye, but the next time I play I'm sure it'll be a completely different story ... first week back always seems to be better than the second week ...

In other other news, we bought tickets to see Massive Attack! 11 March @ Rod Laver Arena ... much goodness involved ... it's about half a week's pay cheque though ... however, there's also The Breeders, and Badly Drawn Boy, and a few others (see the JJJ Tours page) I'd like to catch too... Decay wonders if we'll be eating any food in March after all this concert ticket buying ... especially if we go and buy tickets to the second (not yet announced) MA show ...

At least the work thing is looking up ... I'm being a wanted Droidy at work, to the point where there may be some on-going irregular part-time work to be done in various departments ... I just gotta add a couple of things to the old resume and pass it on to the relevant people ... people didn't know I actually had some HTML skills under my belt... not anything official, but enough to look after some people's websites (: I've been a bit hesitant to list it as a skill because I don't have enough experience using the *industry standard* tools to generate HTML ... Ahh well... we'll see how we go then, yes?

Hock! Shorror!

Whoa, dude, Droidy bought some clothes! Well, a pair of jeans and a belt... and the jeans were less than half-price and didn't have too much of that stupid "wear on the front of the thighs" look that seems to be *so* popular at the moment ... and a belt that cost half the price of the jeans, but still, total cost of jeans and belt is less than what I would've been willing to pay for just the jeans ... so I'm happy.

However, that's not all... Droidy went on a spending spree today, while Decay and friends went to see "Star Trek: Nemesis" ... I am now the owner of a book on Games programming in the Windows environment (very readable, couldn't find a bad review about it, and I did look quite hard) ... and the latest Massive Attack album, due out ... tomorrow.

This is not the end of the spending spree though ... tickets to the Massive Attack concert(s) in Melbourne go on sale this FRIDAY, so guess what the next paycheque is going towards... and tickets to The Breeders are also on sale ... Still haven't found shoes... still would like another book on Windows graphics/application programming, still would like to save a little of this money but argh ... I am NOT missing seeing Massive Attack this time! Last time they were here I had exams when they made it to Melbourne ...

Currently listening to the new MA album ... very yummy ... still in the dark vein they had for Mezzanine, with a touch of the Aphex Twin (that Decay picked up on) ... I'm thinking good study music ... it had some weird copy protection on it, which made ripping to MP3 a bit weird, but it seems to be ok ... it did install something without asking for permission first though ...

Last night was the first Chinese New Year Dinner I've managed to attend... we were banished to the kid's table... funny though ... 4 of 6 of us were over 18 ... so I don't know where the kid bit of the kid's table came from ...

Tonight? Um... Decay, and S "The Ball Carrier", G "The Hippie", and Rod "The Cat-Napper" played poker... 7-card stud or something? Nearly the same rules as what they play on the "Late Night Poker" show they've been showing late on SBS, except for the opening bet stuff... it was funnier listening to the commentary Decay was making than watching the actual hands ... well, what can you do with monopoly money?

I was going to do the hem on my new jeans, as well as cover my new book with contact so I can't kill it too much, but I've done the latter, and I don't know that I have the patience for the former right now... and I need to get some sleep so I'll wake up in time tomorrow morning for work ... or is it today already? I wanna listen to the rest of the album though ... argh.

Quick Post!

Am nearly on lunch break, and looking up the Whereis to figure out where the nearest place is I can pull out some money ... yay! Meanwhile, I'd like to eat, but my mouth doesn't want to let me ... still with the beestung, and the cut on the tongue ... bet you wanted to know that!

Ok, time to get lost in the streets near work now (:

Nearly well again!

... if it's not the headache (deadache was my first type effort), it's something else... today, it's wisdom teeth and the ulcers they've caused my gums. It's also the "I really look like I've been stung by a bee" lips, complete with weird lip ulcery patch, and the miraculous "spring from nowhere" cuts that don't stop bleeding ... I feel like a walking injury waiting to keep happening ...

This weekend happened to be the one where I tried to find, in no particular order:

  • Shoes - flat, casual, not runners, and then a less casual pair.

  • Underwear

  • Clothes - ha! As If.

What did I end up finding? Um... Shoes, but not for me. We found some decent shoes in Decay's size, so we got them. Underwear, this time for me, including a pair with glitter (oooh sparkly) in the straps. No clothes. Doesn't surprise me. I swear, they don't make clothes and shoes that I'd want to wear ... and am able to afford ... I'm planning my trip into the city to try my luck at finding a pair of shoes ... I'm also going to take in one pair of shoes with some thickish elastic to the shoe fixer dudes, see if they can do something to help me keep my shoe on (: The clothes are just going to have to wait a little longer... I gotta see what I need in my wardrobe ...

Long time no post

It's been a short while! Apologies for the lack of postage... I've been sick the last few days, although I'm still trying to deny the whole being sick thing, but when you end up sleeping for most of the hours you're not at work, I don't think the denial thing is getting through to the brain ...

Apart from being ok to go to work, then getting to work and going ... whoa ... dizzy ... stars ... sore muscles ... I think I need to sit down now ... and get a drink and some panadeine in me ... Decay and I went to Julie's place for her farewell drinks thingy last night ... much fun, lots of food, lots of people to talk to, and Decay even showed people some badly modded cars ... poor guesty of honour Jules was running around like a headless chook being all hostessy and everything ... we did tell her to calm down though ... dunno if she listened (:

Besides that, also went for my first look at bridal gowns the previous Friday... went with DK the Elder, for moral support and backup in case they wanted to get all un-servicey on me cos of what they thought was my age, and for her informed opinion of what the dress looked like on me (: There's a writeup in the works about this, but it'll be going up over at the main rantspace area ...

Last weekend we had a semi-regular network games day ... moved at the last minute to the parental's factory, where the air conditioning was set at about 18 degrees C ... which meant I was freezing but none of the computers overheated! Fewer people than we expected actually turned up ... partly cos it was a bit of a rushed preparation I guess ... but it was good (:

Today is also Chinese New Year ... so ... Goong Hei Faat Choi to all those who need to be greeted as such, and Sun Leen Faai Lork to you too ... That's the Cantonese pronunciation, badly anglicised but maybe you'll make some sense out of it ... I think in Mandarin it might be: Gong xi fa cai (dunno what tone marks), and xin (1) nian (3) kuai (4) le (4) ... translation? The first one means something like "wishing you health, wealth and prosperity" I guess, and the second one is more like "Happy New Year!" ... I think I've been avoiding my relos this year ... partly cos we keep having stuff planned on the nights they plan stuff like dinners, and partly cos they keep not acknowledging someone very important in my life ... however, that's another story altogether, and not one to go into again ... I've already thrashed this one to death.

However, since this whole work thing's been going on, I've actually been paid ... this means I can actually go shopping ... groceries for Decay (cos I've eaten a whole lot of his stuff), another pair of shoes, and maybe some clothes ... I've already put a limit as to how much will be spent on everything, and how much I want remaining in my account after all this ... so I can save the majority of my earnings for later... most of this later stuff involves wedding stuff... No, don't get me started on wedding stuff - Em, I think your mother may have regretted starting up a converstation with us about wedding related things - she got the whole rant, and then some!

Anyways, I should scoot and do all the stuff I said I was going to do today... perhaps getting some food into me might be an idea also (:
