Yelp! Work!

I think the brain is still in shock that I'm waking up at un-deity-like hours for university holiday time, and getting to work in inner-city Melbourne by 8:30am... and then not feeling tired all day ... Work has been really good - something different every day, everyone's really nice ... I'm not freaked out and afraid to answer questions... much yay-ness (: It's only a casual position, three to four weeks maximum, but hey, good stuff (: Not where I'd like to be in the long run because there isn't enough computery goodness involved, but it's not stuff I find difficult to do.

Went out to dinner tonight with high school friends, at the Chocolate Buddha, one of a number of new restaurants in the recently-ish opened Federation Square. Dad was guessing that the Chocolate Buddha was a Thai restaurant, but it turned out to be a Japanese noodle/rice dish place, all loud and upside down - they had tatami mats on the ceiling (: Food was yummy... company good also - I hadn't seen them all together for a while ... But owwie... my feet are sore! I wore heels all day today because my flats were broken ... walking around a lot in heels is not a fun thing to do ... no, really! I think I might give the feet a rest tomorrow and wear my docs...

Anyway. I think I need sleep.

The Wednesday phenomenon...

... Yes. It's Wednesday ... and I got a phone call today, offering me a job, without an interview * (:

This means that I have to wake up rather earlier than usual from this Friday onwards (for a minimum 3 weeks), and I get to play office dog's body... at casual rates ... yay! In addition to all this they'll let me have time off to go to interviews for other jobs, because this is a fill-in position until they find someone to do this full time ... something that I was up-front with them about because of this thing called full time uni, coming back soon to a droidy near you. However, experience is good ... a couple more options for references on resumes is good. Being able to put down more experience is good ... yay!

However, Decay's on holiday from the middle of next week for 1.5 weeks, so he can move houses (around the corner...), so the whole timing of this is a little bit (a lot?!) unfortunate .. maybe it'll give him more time to arrange the furniture quicker ... or more un-huggle-interrupted BF1942 time? (:

Ok, enough rantage (; I gotta make me some lunch ...

Random Diversions...

Random surfage brought me to these things:

Postal Experiments, where some dudes tested out the US postal service by sending an assortment of objects, packaged and unpackaged...

PaperCam photography, where hand-made paper pinhole cameras were used to capture the images. The things were folded in complete darkness and only exposed when the photo opportunity arose.

Self-tuning piano, making use of electric currents to warm the strings and keep them at their optimal tuned temperature while being played... Hey, I think it's kewl (:

This is what happens when a bunch of dudes decide to play a stupid prank on someone innocent, and when you add paranoia and incompetence to the mix ...

In other news, I bought a couple of wall calendars for Decay - a Red Dwarf one for home, and a Dilbert one for work ... some of the Dilbert ones might be a a little too close to the truth though ... I couldn't find the one I was actually looking for, which was a magnetic poetry one -- saw them before Christmas but they looked like they'd sold out before the end of the year anyways ... Ahh well...

Weekendish happenings...

Another lazy Sunday afternoon ... watching/listening to the cricket where there's actually a contest going on ... and acting on a few of my New Years Resolutions ... What were they this year?

  • Do some study for the subjects I'm doing in the (hopefully) last two semesters I have at uni
  • Keep looking for a viable part-time job, including finding temp agency types and running about being an admin droidy
  • Attempt to catch up with my school/uni/other friends more often than I've been doing so for the last few years ... difficult, because a whole pile of them are overseas or heading there soon ...
  • Huggle Decay lots ... this one's not hard (:
  • Attempt to organise some sort of wedding type thing, so that Decay and I might actually be married before he goes bald!
  • Attempt to learn to play first person shooters ... this one's a little more difficult

What of these sort of new years resolutions? I've been doing the attempt to get my brain remembering how to do things for the last month or so already, and the job thing's been attempting to get along also ... the catching up with friends thing was sort of Friday night... but I ended up feeling really quite awkward and fretting about my lack of small talk social skills cos besides the person who this was organised by (and for), I knew one other. So, I acted on the huggling Decay resolution while I tried to figure out what I was doing ... The wedding ? Plans to talk to the parentals last night were thwarted before we even opened our mouths because we had an extra at the dinner table last night ... so we played/I attempted to play a couple of games of snooker (I'm bad at this!), and 9 games of 9-ball, Decay and I finished up at 4-all, and the Stirfry Ninja won the only game he played. I think I only potted about 8 balls all up in those nine games ... yes -- four of them were the 9-ball. *giggle*

The other one? Um... yes (: It has been happening ... the whole co-ordination thing is vaguely happening - I don't know whether I want to steer left-handed or right-handed! Ahh well, I have time to get those skills up ... don't know where they'll come in handy though ...

New Years Eve wrap-up ...

The short story? We had S&G over for tea, and then we sat around talking, and doing stuff. The long story ?

We had S&G over for tea, which consisted of:

  • Cheese and crackers platter with Camembert, Colby and Dutch Smoked cheese
  • Basil and Other assorted things Roast Beef
  • That Thai-style salad thing with some improvements
  • Sticky Date Pudding with appropriate sauce provided by S&G and their bipolar oven

In the preparation and consumption of this meal, we managed to use all the rest of the engagement gifts, including the stuart crystal glasses. Yes, even if there weren't the most appropriate glass to be sipping red wine from, they got used. The roast made use of the roasting tray, the last of the saucepan etc set from Decay's parentals... the cheese platter used the serving plate given to us from Sparker (of TGI fame), and that was pretty much all that we hadn't used before that night ...

Overall it was a fairly quiet night... G got a bit sleepy after a Gin and Toh!, and about half a bottle of red, we tried to avoid the computer but it didn't end up happening because there was some downloading and burning hankering to happen ... and we got a happy sounding Rod on the phone, offering us more chocolate... *giggle*

It was nice and quiet ... which is a nice way to see in the new year ... Not having been one of those who actively planned anything to happen for the new year, this is the sort of thing I'd prefer to be doing instead of going out all night and fending off (or not) strangers attempting to do the midnight smooch thing ... although they'd look at Decay and back off now I hope !
