Two down, Four to go ...
Right ... I had this post all ready and everything yesterday afternoon, and then someone hit a powerpole and caused a bit of a power dip which reset all the computers in the house ... well, except for Demotivator, but without net access, still can't publish ...
I walked out of yesterday's exam early ... earlier than I walked out of Tuesday's exam ... my theory is, why sit there for longer when you know there isn't a chance in hell that you might remember something, or be able to increase your marks, when you have 5/4 more exams to do? If I sit there long enough I might start changing things which then might decrease the marks ... the whole thinking twice thing tends to make me get all paranoid about my original answers and then I don't know who's right so I freak out ... better to leave...
Today's one ... well, I'm doing the essay summaries for past questions this morning ... but I'm typing them. I don't know how the arm is going to cope, given that it was all tired after half a question yesterday and that wasn't even an essay question ... how tired can you get doing dot-points?
Anyways, here's something to distract you for the day: The Mystery of Time and Space ... requires flash, doesn't work too well in mozilla but is ok in NS and IE, might need a bit more grunt than Ernie has here ... and it has sound ... but the little puzzles are kewl ... how do you get out of this room? (: No, I haven't finished it ... I'm stopping myself playing more cos um... I won't get any study done if I play! I knew there had to be some sort of addictive thing coming up during this set of exams ...

For those who needed to know and didn't want to get a printout ...
Exam timetable for Semester 2, 2002.
And then here's hoping that I don't frighten any browsers with javascript ... it really has been too long since I've played around ... 5 more to go... 5 more to go ... Argh, damn that NS/Moz/IE different thingie... nevermind, it seems to be an ok size for two browsers...
This morning's exam was ... ok? if I didn't pass this time what hope do I have? Um... Hmmm ... Anyways, I took a decent stab at 5 out of 6 questions, a very undecent stab at the last question (what relates B to V? No, I'm not looking ... ), am mostly confident that I got at least 90% of the first three questions right, fairly ok on parts of two of the questions, and am hopeful that I at least get marks for trying on the rest of the bits ... After all that, I'll just cross my fingers just in case...
Oh, and Leo and Tux were sitting on my desk today as well - specifically remembered that I had to whiz past Decay's place to pick them up this morning ... If I'm going to go down in a blaze of glory I'll choose to take the Leo and the Tux with me ... at least I know Leo's been through almost as many exams as I've been through ... and been checked for cheat notes ...
Ok, back to the books ... different ones... with colourful covers ... hmmm ....

A snapshot of the stress of thesis due date ...
Yes, it's another Friday. Things were due for a pile of my Engineering friends today... the lack of sleep for the last few weeks should pay off soon ... really ... makes me think I'm not going to look forward to when it's my turn to hand in the big one ... I've already submitted my preferences for the thesis project for next year... hopefully I'll get what I picked ...
Given that it's Friday, and something is due today (but I'm handing it in next week - I'll take the 4th year extension while I can), I'll take a break from doing a crash course in Flash and chuck together some semblance of a brain dump ...
The Friday Five ...
- How many TVs do you have in your home?
Um.... which place are you talking about ?
- Where I sleep: 2
- Where I am most of the time: Um... one TV, two laptops that can plug into a USB TV tuner thing (only one at a time though), one computer with a TV tuner card. Does that make it 3? 4? 3.5?
- Where I live for voting purposes: 4. I think. Or was it 5?
Makes it funnier if I mention that I don't really watch much TV at all...
- On average, how much TV do you watch in a week?
Probably about 1-2 hours all up, with the TV being on while I walk through various rooms and stuff, and the odd bit of news I might catch for the weather forecast ...
- Do you feel that television is bad for young children?
I don't know ... there are things that might not be appropriate for little kiddie-winkles to see yet, but I don't see the harm in letting them watch play school, sesame street, whatever else is considered kiddie winkle programming). Oh yeah, and Square One! I loved watching that ... mostly for MathNet ...
- What TV shows do you absolutely HAVE to watch, and if you miss them, you're heartbroken
People who know me would know that I just don't watch much TV at all ... Decay's got to practically drag me over and sit me down infront of a TV and keep me there... nevermind going to see a movie ...
- If you had the power to create your own television network, what would your line-up look like?
Um... I'd switch the TV off and turn on the radio? How about my dream radio lineup?
- Breakfast: Adam and Wil, with Sandman and Mikey Robbins thrown in every now and then...
- Morning: The dudes on RRR Breakfast ...
- Lunch: The dudes on Eat It, mixed with the dudes on Einstein A-Go-Go ... or something ...
- Afternoon: dunno ... silence?
- Night: Delivery + Hybrid all mixed up ...
- Overnight: Whatever... Rage? Creative Alternative Techno?
Yeah, something like that ... not much of a TV person am I?
In other news, we picked up the photos that we had done by Brett Jacques Photography last night, and wow... they are really really good... no pics pnline yet... waiting for digital images to be emailed over... The big pic looked a lot bigger than I remember it was going to be ... but it looks really good at the size it is now ...
After picking up the photos, we went to Sakura for some tasty Japanese food ... we were a bit more adventurous this time... picking things from the menu instead of chickening out and getting the set menu ... the Spicy Gyu Udon was yummy, as was the Spicy Bento box, which had some sort of curry chicken and beef, some salmon baby maki rolls, some cubed salmon with sesame oil and other stuff, and something else... the house sushi platter was yummy too ... inside-out rolls, and a selection of tuna, salmon and whatever the white fish was for sashimi, and yeah ... yummy... And ... that will be our night out for dinner for this month ...
Exams are looming way too quickly... I think I may have missed my best chance at scoring a christmas retail position - the last week has been um... hectic? Haven't done a cover letter, haven't printed anything off... I'm losing my nerve to even apply for anything right now ...
Anyways, back to the Flash MX stuff... I got my lovely trial version to play with ... full functionality, but time-limited ... good thing the assignment's due before the trial ends, hey?

Tired Saturday Afternoon rambling ...
Very tired ... I think I had too much sleep last night. Should've got out of bed when the alarm finished instead of ignoring the lack of noise and drifting back to sleep ...
I'm currently also in the process of drafting up my resume, in order to apply for a Christmas retail job or two. What have a realised from doing this? I really don't have very much experience in anything ... I've been doing office/admin stuff unofficially since I was 13, and I've dealt with my fair share of over-the-counter sales... but how do people go with picking people with pretty much no experience, and are too old to be paid junior rates? Reminds me, I should get the cover letters done and start dropping things in ... I'm feeling a bit too chicken to ring up and talk right now ... The other resume I was working on was the serious one ... I'll have to start looking for relevant work experience soon, so I might as well get it ready while I"m at the whole resume thing. What do you put down in as your skills and attributes if you don't know if you can do anything at all? Perhaps I'm being a tad critical.
Meanwhile, I'll figure out what on earth I'm doing trying to write up the design specs for this assignment ... group project due on Monday, presentation on Tuesday. I'm not sure when I'm going to get study done before exams ... I'm going to worry about them, because this semester seems to have flown by, and I don't seem to have much idea about what's going on, or no way to put into words what it is I'm doing in a couple of subjects ... finishing exams early does involve the whole doing exams early thing also ... but we knew that, didn't we?
Ok, off to dinner at the parental abode ... much yayitude?

What's on your mind, sticky chicken?
Yes, listening to Adam and Wil at the moment... hee hee ... I think I need to think about some food for what might count as lunch ...
Meanwhile... The Friday Five returnth...
- If you could only choose 1 cd to ever listen to again, what would it be?
Hmm... Badly Drawn Boy - Hour of the Bewilderbeast ... I was almost going to say DJ Shadow - Endtroducing, and years ago I would've named Nirvana - Nevermind ... but BDB's first album has enough variety on it ... it's not quite permanently stuck in the CD player in the car I drive (:
- If you could only choose 2 movies to watch ever again, what would they be?
The Matrix... and um... I don't know ... I do go see movies with Decay, but I'm not one of those who has to go see movies ... I did like The Crow though ... Definitely not Loser though ... hee hee (:
- f you could only choose 3 books to read ever again, what would they be?
Um... Applied Cryptography by Bruce Schneier (mostly because it's going to take me a while to get through it!), The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, Obernewtyn by Isobelle Carmody ... Most of my reading is non-fiction these days...
- If you could only choose 4 things to eat or drink ever again, what would they be?
Um... this is a problem ... can I choose by texture? something crunchy, something soft, something hot, something cold. As long as none of them have mushrooms in them.
- If you could only choose 5 people to ever be/talk/associate/whatever with ever again, who would they be?
Obviously, Decay. After that, I don't know. Either I'd drive them completely mad or they will drive me up the wall and back down again ...
That was difficult. I'm not good on coming up with lists of favourites ...

When in blogland...
Do as the bloggers do?
The list of 100 ... next challenge is to attempt this for Em as part of the redesign and assignment I have for a subject ... next week, ok?
Go and read about some urban legends ...
100 things
- My name is Priscilla, please, no Elvis/Queen of the Desert comments
- I was born a few weeks early. Means I made it into 1979, rather than 1980.
- I'm left handed, but spent about 5 years writing almost exclusively with my right hand
- At around this time, I also started learning to play tennis. Right-handed. It took me three years to figure out how to serve
- I wish I could play tennis left handed also ... that would be kewl ... switch sides in the middle of a set and confuse people
- At the age of 13 I decided I'd go back to writing left handed, because being right handed didn't make my handwriting any neater
- ... besides, pretty much everything else I did was left handed, except for the tennis thing
- You know that thing about how some people remember school days being the best days of their lives? I'm not one of those people
- A lot of the time I felt that people were friends with me only because they felt sorry for me
- I was fairly shy, and was teased by the popular crowd. I can't remember what they were teasing me about though
- After a while I realised I didn't really care what *they* thought, just as long as I was ok with who I am
- I have never consciously been on a diet, to lose or to gain weight.
- Despite this, I weigh less now than i did when I finished high school
- I had a favourite white shirt from when I was 10 that would still fit me today, if it hadn't died an over-worn death
- I have been a gym junkie of sorts before...
- At that point, I had a BMI of about 20
- And a resting heart rate hovering around 50 bpm
- The BMI is still the same
- The resting heart rate however ... add about 15-20 bpm
- I miss being fit and alert
- I did the International Baccalaureate in my final two years at high school, to minimise the results comparisons that would be made between me and my parents friends children
- My school was disappointed that I did not achieve results to rank me in the top 10% of the state ... I think they felt it was a scholarship wasted
- I went to uni, to study for a degree that wasn't my first, second, or third preference
- In hindsight, I'm glad I didn't get into the Pharmacy degree
- The option of working with computers did not occur to me until I'd missed the cut for pharmacy, but now I'm happily a geek in training
- I have been at Uni for the last 5 years, 3 of them part-time
- The degree I'm studying for is a Bachelor of Computer Science and Engineering
- Every year I've been at Uni, my course has changed its tack. The current version bears little resemblance to the course I originally enrolled in.
- Even the name of the degree has changed. It's now known as a Bachelor of Computer Systems Engineering
- Because of all this course restructuring, subjects keep flitting in and out of the degree ... at this point, if it's ever appeared in a course schedule, I'm probably still allowed to take it
- Next year should be my final year
- I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, finally
- I met my fiance online
- But it's not like that ... we didn't think of each other in that way until after we met ...
- We realised that we used to live a couple of streets from each other at one point
- And that he used to take a shortcut through the primary school I went to, on the way to high school
- I asked him out first... to my housewarming party
- He suggested meeting up prior to this though
- So we sat drinking trendy coffee, and listening to bad music
- He ribbed me for bringing along a geek mag... I said it was just in case he didn't turn up!
- He asked if I'd like to see a movie with him ... this would be the second meeting ...
- Something clicked on our second meeting ... I guess Loser wasn't particularly engrossing watching
- I broke up with him a week after we first met in person
- This was because I was afraid of what my parents would do, given what happened with the last boyfriend
- He was persistent, however ...
- He asked to borrow my CD collection, and came to watch me play tennis the following Monday night
- By the end of that week, we were back together ...
- 6 months later, he asked a particular question
- Of course I said yes!
- Just over a year after we officially clicked, we told the rest of the world of the answer to the question
- Both sets of parents were a bit shocked, but I think generally happy
- However, two days later, a couple of planes hit some buildings
- Not too many of my relatives actually know of or acknowledge our engagement... No, I haven't figured it out either
- Despite all this, We do plan to get married once I've finished Uni
- Eloping is looking like a really good idea at this point in time
- I have a feeling we'd get lynched if we were to try this though
- I tend to choose my food by texture rather than taste... "What do you want for dinner tonight? " ... " ... Something crunchy... "
- I have a thing for naming inanimate objects
- They tend not to be names that I'd actually name any children we might have
- My current tennis racquet is called Octavia. She's a feisty redhead
- The kitchen table at the future in laws place is called Clive. So is my previous tennis racquet
- My mobile phone is called Elspeth.
- I don't know that I'm particularly girly ... I don't wear make up often, I don't get dressed up very often either, and I don't read Cosmo, Cleo, New Woman, New Idea, Womans Day, whatever else is out there... I tend to read Atomic MPC, Desktop, Juice, Q, whatever other magazines that might be lying around
- Despite this, I do like painting my nails occasionally, even though I'm rather inaccurate in the application of nail polish
- This began when I quit learning the piano and was able to grow my nails
- I learned to play the piano for about 8 years, all up
- I actually wanted to learn the violin ...
- I can't sight-read music very well. This cost me half a grade or more in my piano exams
- I once calculated how much money would have been spent on piano lessons in all those years. I don't want to know anymore ...
- Now I prefer to keep my fingernails short. Very short. They grow too fast for me to keep them the length I like them
- I don't watch very much TV. Pop culture references are generally lost on me
- I have no intention of living anywhere but in Australia
- When we go out for dinner, my default choice is the caesar salad, the reasoning being that they can't stuff up a salad *that* much, can they?
- They have before ...
- I really don't like spiders
- More so if they're actually moving when I see them
- I can handle daddy long legs though ... mostly
- I don't like eating mushrooms or asparagus
- However, if the mushrooms are completely blended up into something, I will eat them ... I think it's the texture that gets to me
- I used to want to be a writer ...
- ... now I can barely write an essay to save my life
- I have 7 piercings, 5 in my ears, but i haven't finished yet
- ... nothing below the belt!
- No tattoos yet, but eventually that will happen too
- I let my hairdresser do pretty much what she wants with my hair ... I get bored with it
- Currently, my hair is black. Apparently it's trying to grow out... but it's driving me up the wall
- Occasionally I wish I had really long hair, but with the easy maintenance of short hair
- That combination is just not going to happen though, is it?
- I like to fold origami flowers ... I was very happy when i learnt how to fold a kawasaki rose
- I also like to make friendship bands ... I haven't actually had the time to make one for a couple of years though
- At times, I do procrastinate
- Like right now
- I haven't been able to sit down and do nothing for a long time... or ever?
- I'm not much of an impulse shopper ... I like to compare all the prices I can find before I fork out the money
- My hands are quite cold if the ambient temperature is below about 21 degrees C
- I find it difficult to match names to faces
- I type at about 70wpm on a good day ... wish I could type my exams ... they'd have more chance of reading the answers
- I have brought Leo the stuffed toy lion into almost every single exam I've sat. He was once checked for illegal notes during an exam ...
- I know way too many postcodes for metropolitan Melbourne suburbs ... I'm trying to forget them still
- I am happy with who I am today
< ? 100 Things # >
Hmmm ... that didn't take too long ...

Which Smiley are You?
Created by Jessi.
Indeed. That funness was courtesy of Weblog Wannabe ... while this little monster is courtesy of a number of people ... damn you Decay for pointing this out ... although if you hadn't seen it over at zannah's, I would've seen it at milk and cookies, or one of the other gazillion places it's been linked... argh. 650,950... by the way.
Last week was the mid semester break that was, and shouldn't have been, but still should've been. Decay also took the week off, not that it felt at all like a week off. Regardless of how much work was actually accomplished (close to none, but not quite) and how much actually needed doing (something approaching infinity, but not quite. The end is nigh) I think I slept through most of it. So much so that there wasn't even time to post...
We had G's 0x1e-th (036? 11110?) birthday celebrations, they'll be eating leftovers for the rest of the year, it seems ... We also had Geek Shane's surprise birthday thing the week before ... where it was officially declared that Decay and I should not be allowed to play Pictionary together ever again ... weathervane, anyone?
Ok, need to program.
