Yay! Or something. I've been doing well on the non-updates of this here thingy, probably because I've been procrastinating over there instead.
I've been delving deeper into webgeek land and throwing together things that resemble perl, cgi, mysql at a squirt configured so it webserves locally, in the hope that it sticks together and makes itself look like a dynamic website thingy for thesis attempt (official) attempt number 2. Unofficially, it's number 3, but we'll forget about the first go, ok?
So .... the last 5 months hey ? Let's do an unordered list without using the cgi.pm OO calls to spell it out ... why not... we'll even nest the bugger.
- December:
- Christmas
- My grandpa, uncle, and aunty (dad's side) came over to visit for a bit
- The mess that Christmas ended up in order to see both sides of the family
- Sambo's never-ending adventures took a sharp left turn too, which meant that Christmas lunch with the *son* didn't eventuate
- Oh yeah. I got a bit older... meh. Still get checked for ID
- January:
- I don't know, it was all a haze...
- Oh yeah, workmate got married, Decay took a gazillion pics, workmate and new wifey appreciated them
- ... oh yeah, there was some of that going to work stuff... played FF1 while I was at work answering phones, it got a bit quiet ... with everyone ELSE at other workplaces on holidays
- February:
- Cousin got married. W00t! Bunches of people turned up, some of them were at our wedding too. Others were supposed to be but had to decline because of superstitions and such.
- RSO:T New Zealand. We have the T-Shirts to prove it
- We missed Jul's birthday
- Back to work ... thank deity it was only one full week before ...
- March:
- Surprisingly, we didn't have a wedding to attend this month
- However, semester 1 for uni started ...
- Which meant that it was part time Droidy for all!
- We were around to sit about watching people for B's birthday
- Oh yeah, tennis started an eon back, it seems, but we'd really only played ... 1 game before we left for NZ, and I don't know what happened to March.
- Oh yeah, we also had yummy chinese to celebrate Mong's b'day... but that was earlier in March, and it also involved meeting someone there who works where I temped for I think it was 8 weeks in total. They were kind of wondering what a non-arts student was doing with an office assistant job ...
- April:
- Stirfry got a bit older
- Decay got a bit younger
- Oh yeah, we got back from Sydney. I forgot to mention we left to go to Sydney on the Easter weekend...
- We went to another wedding. Funnily enough, same day as what Charles and Camilla originally had planned, before the pope dude decided it was someone else's turn now
- I can't remember what happened in April and it's only 4 days ago ....
- There was a hen's night that G and I went to ..
- May:
- Um... There's a bunch of Thesis deadlines coming up. This afternoon's one was a meeting with my thesis supervisor dude, and things appear to be on track for the moment.
- There's a wedding to attend this month. This time it's for one of the people in the linkbar on rantspace. It's also going to be a very early saturday morning for us all
- I have been using google as my uber happy fun fun tool of choice, so now I have a nicely playing vim running in various terminal windows on squirt, all loaded up with my preferences pre-set...
- Oh, there's also been some online shopping. Arm Warmers are kewl. I don't really care if no-one else thinks so, but mine are doing a super job keeping me warm. There's a metric fuckload of other online shopping lined up for when I have bucketloads of money
Yay! Decay and I are currently on two weeks off from work, which is definitely a good thing for someone who has been feeling a bit sleep deprived since daylight saving kicked in ...
We bought a shiny thing yesterday, and a shiny thing bag, and some RAM juice, but from CPL ... Decay also snagged a new Geek Carry-all, so now we're all geeked up and ready to go places ... or something.
Meanwhile, have some linkage:
- Shoewawa, for all your shoe-envy in the one spot ... they're all a bit tall for normal walking purposes... I much prefer stomping about in 20-up Doc Martens...
- mocoloco, modern contemporary design, fun to look at, don't know if it's anything mere mortals could ever own...
- Ultimate Choc Chip Cookies - I think I've made three batches of these, not yet having followed the exact recipe. These are yummy and chewy, and quite forgiving given that our oven has no temperature dial. Through trial and error and reckoning that 12.00 on the dial was about 180 degrees Celsius, these came out a treat!
- Transformers, more than meets the eye? I thought the dancing car was cute (:
Right, Decay tells me we should go looking for a new desk setup for me, because now I have two monitors and a shiny thing to sit on my desk, which doesn't leave me much space for books and stuff in a viewable position. I'm also looking for new glasses, but it'll have to wait til the old ones come back from having their lenses replaced... I got my eyes on a couple of green pairs ... a little different from what I'd normally choose, in that they're plastic framed instead of wire-framed. Decay has some phone cam pics of these, they may end up somewhere.
Right, it's been a while, I'm off work today cos I can't string two sentences together without coughing up a lung, but my brain's still functioning.
Have some linkitude, people.

In other news, there's shiny thing purchasing action happening soon, no, this isn't a switch ad, I wanted something portable and I might as well diversify the OS familiarity thing while I'm at it (:
Bento! ... easy choice for Japanese if we're grabbing take-away *grin* ... but it's not the same as these ones, lovingly prepared by a mother for her children (:
I think I should be more worried. I have 25 days to my last written exam, I have a couple of weeks before I have to submit a thesis mid-year presentation thingy, and my probationary period at work is nearly ending. I haven't killed anyone yet, nor have I driven anyone to hang up on me, or had an auto-fail on a call yet, even though I should've by now. I know at least 5 calls where I've stuffed up *grin*
I shall continue to plod along for a while. Domesticness hits here on the weekends, which includes grocery shopping, and laundry. F1 racing is perfect for folding fresh-out-of-the-dryer clothes (: Mornings are made for sleeping in because it's too cold to get out of bed yet. Pity that doesn't apply on weekdays (:
Right. I did say I was going to be a couple of months between posts, but that was just ridiculous. I apologise to those people who were looking for something inane to read. *grin*
What's happened since the last one?
- Job is a job - finished the four weeks of training, and have now been on the phones for nearly six weeks. I haven't killed anyone yet, and I'm not sick of having to tell people the same thing every day. I am, however, not that enamoured with people who ring up expecting us to solve their problems yesterday already, and getting all huffy when they can't follow instructions. The rest of the calls are a breeze compared to these ones
- Uni is Uni. I've been attempting to study one subject during my lunch break at work, and working on brushing up my programming skills after work. Still need to work a bunch more, but at least I am putting in regular hours at this. Not quite enough for the lunchtime subject, and also not quite enough on the thesis project, but I'm not as freaked out as I was last year doing this. Not having to plan a wedding definitely helps this aspect. Exam timetable has come out, and I'll actually get Queens Birthday as a paid holiday this year...
- In other life-related things, Radiohead = Good, Radiohead cancelling second show = Bad. Monday night tennis = Good, not being able to organise enough people to commit to a Thursday night competition = Mildly annoying.
What's been on my blog reading list of late? Much food blog-ness ... Decay and I aren't foodies, we just kinda like trying things ... and what better place to research than the internet ?
- Look in the fridge, do we have anything we want to use tonight?
- Jump on the internet, do a google search for recipes involving this, with an optional theme parameter
- ???
- Profit!
Besides that, there's the massive list of food blogs (with last update time) over here, of which Chocolate and Zucchini and I was just really very hungry have been regular reading material in the last month or so, among others. I seem to have the attention span of something that really doesn't have much of an attention span, that then gets distracted ... oh look, a tree!
Anyways, I shall get back to making myself remember what I forgot about programming - I like it a lot when I can get something to work ... makes the frustration of it not working worthwhile.
